Kylie Minogue

The most famous and successful of all Aussie Pop Divas is recording superstar Kylie Minogue.

She rose to fame in her role as Charlene Mitchell in the Australian soap opera Neighbours in 1986 before starting her career as a recording artist in 1987 when she released her first single The Loco-Motion. The song spent seven weeks at No. 1 on the ARIA Singles Chart and became the highest-selling single in Australia in the 1980s.

Her debut album Kylie, released in July 1988, went gold in the United States and was the first album by a female solo artist in the United Kingdom to exceed sales of $2 million. Thus began the career of the most famous and successful Aussie Pop Diva. Minogue has since recorded a total of 11 albums, 12 compilation albums, five live albums and 12 remix albums, with her record sales reaching more than 68 million.

In her 25 years in the music industry she has achieved outstanding worldwide recognition, winning some of the industry’s most prestigious awards including a Grammy Award, multiple ARIA and Brit Awards, NRJ Music Awards, Q Awards and numerous MTV awards in United States, Asia and Japan. She also won a Mo Award for Australian Entertainer of the Year.

Minogue was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II and a Chevalier (Knight) of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Government for her services to music.

She was also the first woman to win Britain’s prestigious Music Industry Trust’s Award and is also in the Guinness World Records for having the most consecutive decades with top five albums. She was recently co-recipient of Live Performance Australia’s 2013 JC Williamson Award. Minogue was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in November 2011.

She has been featured on the covers of countless major global magazines including Vogue, Elle, Glamour, Harpers Bazaar, Rolling Stone, Time, GQ, FHM, Cosmopolitan, Flaunt, Hello and Cleo, to name a few. She also starred in several feature films and movies such as The Delinquents, Street Fighter, Moulin Rouge and Holy Motors.

Minogue, known for being a fashion icon, has also released eight perfumes and a Kylie at Home collection of homeware products. She has also published three books, the latest Kylie/Fashion in 2013.

Her status as Australia’s most successful and highly acclaimed Pop Diva was confirmed when Madame Tussands in London revealed its fourth waxwork of Minogue. The only person who has more at the museum is Queen Elizabeth II, who has five. There is also a bronze statue of Minogue in Melbourne.

In January 2013 Minogue separated from long-term manager Terry Blamey, who guided her career since Neighbours. In February 2013 she signed with Roc Nation, an American management team, and in June 2013 she released the single Skirt, which reached No. 1 on the American Billboard Dance/Club Play Charts.

She will be back on Australian TV screens regularly when she joins The Voice Australia in 2014.
